MARIEMONT BOYS' SOCCER STATE CHAMPS

11/14/2020

Mariemont boys' soccer team won their first ever state championship.  The Warriors defeated Youngstown Cardinal Mooney at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus 4-1 to win the Division III state title.
Mariemont got the only goal of the 1st half.  Jimmy Sauters scored with the assist going to Luke Brothers.  In the 2nd half, the Warriors scored three goals in a little over four minutes.  The first was by Brothers with an assist from Nick Comer.  Brothers scored again 40 seconds later.  Henry Buck finished off the scoring 90 seconds later.  Cardinal Mooney's only goal came late in the game. Mariemont struggled early in the post season.  In the sectional final they had to go to overtime to beat Cincinnati Country Day.  In the district final, they edged Yellow Springs 4-3. But in the last four games in the regionals and state, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 15-2.  Mariemont ended with a perfect 23-0-0 season.  You might say they were "wire to wire" champs.  They never lost a game and were #1 ranked all season in Division III.

Congratulations to Coach Erik Vanags and the Warrior players on their perfect season!
