Two Teams, Five Individual Runners Make It To State


The regional cross country championships were held in Troy.  After a season of mostly dry meets, it was a total opposite Saturday.  Steady rain fell throughout the meet and at times, it was heavy.  Despite the bad weather, the league will have two teams and five individuals at the state meet. 

Division III Girls (top 4 teams and top 16 individuals not on those teams advance)
Madeira finished 3rd with 95 points.  Maddie Liebert led the Amazons finishing 12th out of 88 runners.  Izzy Arredondo was 19th & Claire Leroy 23rd.  Rounding out the scoring was Rosie Davis & Emma Beck.  Caroline Widmeyer & Maggie Sampson were the 6th & 7th runners for Madeira.

Division II (top 3 teams and top 12 individuals not on those teams advance)
Indian Hill finished 4th with 93 points.  Mariemont was 5th & Wyoming 8th.  Even though the teams did not qualify for state, each one had a runner qualify.  Elizabeth Whaley (Indian Hill) was 5th out of 89 runners.  Lily Bauer (Mariemont) was 6th.  Tiffany Chen (Wyoming) was 11th.

Division II Boys (top 4 teams and top 16 individuals not on those teams advance)
Madeira boys made it two for two as they also advance to state with a runner up finish.  The Mustangs had 103 points, only 4 behind regional champ Carroll.  Diego Arredondo led Madeira with an 8th place finish out of 105 runners.  Ethan Henry was 21st & Ben Ramos 22nd.  Calvin Busch & Dylan Whitson rounded out the Mustang scoring.  Jacob Gaffney & Luke Mitchell were the 6th & 7th runner for Madeira.  Mariemont was 5th with 140 points.  Sam Beeler was the top runner for the Warriors finishing 19th.  Indian Hill was 12th.  Alex Galbraith finishing 16th, taking the final individual place for state.  Wyoming was 13th.  Alex Stoppenhagen was the top runner for the Cowboys.  Nike Lake of Taylor finished 11th and qualify for state.  Nate Grant of Reading was 38th.

The state championship cross country meet will be held on Saturday at National Trail Raceway.  It is located in Hebron about 20 miles east Columbus.  The times are the same as the regional meet.  Madeira girls will run at 11:00.  Whaley, Bauer, & Chen will run at 11:45.  Madeira boys, Galbraith, & Lake will run at 2:15.
