Indian Hill Tennis Big Win Saturday


Indian Hill tennis had a big win Saturday with a famous player in attendance.  The Warriors defeated Columbus Academy 3-2.  Watching the match was WTA Tennis Professional Caty McNally from Madeira.  Caty had a great run in the US Open where she played Serena Williams to the wire on national TV.  Indian Hill was ranked by as the preseason #1 Division II team in Ohio.  Columbus Academy was 4th rank.  The match marked the return of co captain Hayley Hirsch to the Braves line up.  She teamed up with Bella Kirby to beat the best player in Ohio Sidney Ratliff & doubles partner Lauren Motta in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.  Other Indian Hill winners were Jenny Zhang in #3 singles, as well as Callie O'Dell & Hannah Pollock in #2 doubles.  The Braves big win was achieved while still waiting for co captain Morgan Coburn's return from injury.  She has begun working out with the team and appears close to returning to the singles lineup.  Coach Gary Samuels said that "Everyone one of our players has contributed immensely while our team was missing three players."

The Braves will have a home match on Thursday with Olentangy Liberty, the 4th ranked preseason Division I team in Ohio.  Their first two league matches of the year will be Monday & Tuesday against Madeira & Mariemont.  The Braves have not lost a league match since 2003.
