Dupre Makes State Swimming Championships Historic For CHL

Several league swimmers & divers are bringing back "hardware" from the Division II state championships in Canton.  Some of that hardware is historic!

Mariemont's Cora Dupre was making her 4th trip to state.  As a sophomore, she won the 200 Freestyle.  Last year, she took home gold medals in the 50 Freestyle & 100 Freestyle.  This year, her individual events were the 100 & 200 freestyles. Dupree made it look easy in winning the 200 Freestyle for the 2nd time.  She won the event by over 4 1/2 seconds ahead of 2nd place in a state and pool record time of 1:45.91.  A few events later, she won the 100 Freestyle for the 2nd straight year with a time of 48.96.  That made it five individual state championships for the senior over the last three years.  She now has more individual state titles than anyone else in any sport in CHL history!  Later in the meet, she almost made it a 6th gold.  Mariemont's 200 Freestyle Relay (Dupre, senior Lainey Newman, senior Kate Overbey, senior Katarina DeCamp) finished 3rd.  Their time of 1:36.21 was only .24 behind the winning team in the closest relay race of the night.  The same four girls were on the 200 Medley team that also finished 3rd.  Mariemont was the highest placing girls' team for the CHL finishing 6th with 128 points.  Wyoming was 13th, Indian Hill 14th, & Madeira 20th.  All 31 points for Madeira were scored by one swimmer.  Senior Emma Fortman was 3rd in the 100 Freestyle & 4th in 100 Backstroke.

Indian Hill boys' placed 6th in the state with 112 points. Mariemont was right behind with 101 points.  Wyoming was 25th & Madeira 48th.  Ian Mikesell of Mariemont was the best swimmer for the CHL.  The senior placed runner-up in the 200 IM & 100 Breaststroke.  He was on the 7th place 200 Medley Relay (Ian Mikesell, senior Jackson Comer, senior Davis Schmit, sophomore Philip Forbes).  His 4th podium finish was on the 200 Freestyle Relay (Ian Mikesell, Jackson Comer, Philip Forbes, sophomore Jonah Mikesell).  They finished 8th. Jackson Comer also had an 8th place finish in the 100 Backstroke.  Indian Hill had podium finishes in six events.  Junior Will Taylor was 5th in the 200 Freestyle & 7th in the 500 Freestyle.  Junior Devin Edwards was 7th in the 100 Freestyle. Junior Nick Bulas was 5th in the 100 Backstroke.  The 200 Freestyle Relay of Devin Edwards, Will Taylor, sophomore Gabe Yin, & sophomore Dan Edmonson were 4th place.  The 400 Freestyle Relay of Nick Bulas, Dan Edmonson, Devin Edwards, & Will Taylor were 5th place.
