For the 2nd time in school history, Wyoming has won a state football title.  The Cowboys won the Division IV state championship with a convincing 42-14 win over Girard. The game was the 7th and final state championship game over three days at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.

After the Cowboys stopped Girard on their first possession, Wyoming scored on a 4 play 49 yard drive.  Evan Prater scored on a 32 yard run.  AJ Washienko PAT made it 7-0 Wyoming 3 minutes into the game.  On their next possession, Girard score on a 5 yard run by quarterback Mark Waid.  The PAT tied the game at 7 all.  Late in the 1st quarter, Prater completed a 16 yard TD pass to Joey Edmonds.  Washienko made it 14-7 Wyoming after one quarter. With 5:40 to go in the 2nd quarter, Prater & Edmonds connected again for a score, this one for 29 yards.  Washienko PAT made it 21-7 Cowboys.  Edmonds intercepted a Indian pass to end their drive at the Wyoming 29.  Wyoming went 4 plays and 71 yards for another score.  The big play was a spectacular pass catch by Edmonds for 35 yards to the Girard 15.  A Indian penalty move the ball to the 8 where Prater took it in for the score.  Washienko PAT gave Wyoming a three score lead going to the locker room at half.  In the 3rd quarter, Girard had the biggest offensive play of the game on a 95 yard touchdown pass.  They cut the Wyoming lead to 28-14. In a similar situation from last week, Wyoming fumbles on their next possession and Girard recovers at the 50 yard line.  But the Cowboy defense held them to a 3 and out. The 3rd quarter ends with Wyoming at the Indian 18 yard line.  In the 4th quarter, Brennan Pagan scores on an 18 yard run and, with the Washienko PAT, Wyoming moved to a 35-14 lead. After a Girard 3 and out, Wyoming drove down the field in 10 play drive the resulted in a Prater1 yard score, his 3rd TD run of the game and his 32nd this season.  The PAT made it 42-14.  Perry McMichen "put the icing on the cake" intercepting a Girard pass with 5:30 to go in the game.  The Cowboys ran out the clock for the 42-14 win.  They finish the season a perfect 15-0.  Girard finished 13-2.  Coach Aaron Hancock has now joined the legendary Bob Lewis has the only other Wyoming football coach to win a state title!  What a way to end Wyoming's 100th season in football.  You could not write a script any better!   Keep checking Twitter the next few days for pictures and more info on the state title.

Interesting note for the CHL.  This is the 4th team title won by a league team this year.  Deer Park boys started it by winning the basketball championship.  Later in the spring, Mariemont girls' lacrosse won.  Earlier this fall, Indian Hill won the girls' soccer for the 2nd straight year.  And Wyoming finishes it up with a state title in football.
