Bayless Only Podium Finish At State Cross Country

In the coldest state cross country meet in memory, 16 league runners brave the elements.  The meet was held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, about 20 miles east of Columbus and was delayed a week because of flooding conditions on the course.

Division II Boys'
Ben Bayless of Indian Hill has had a great senior season. You probably wouldn't blame him if he wasn't that fond of the state course.  The only two times he didn't finished 1st in a meet was at that course.  The first meet of the year, he was 5th at the OHSAA Early Season Meet.  At the state meet, he finished 6th out of 178 runners. Even though he didn't finished 1st, Bayless had podium finishes in both races at National Trail Raceway.  Senior teammate Nolan Heffernan was 54th. Junior Nick Lake of Taylor was 25th.  Junior teammate Chase Grauel finished in 19:19.3.  Senior Jack Schwartz of Wyoming finished 39th.
The Madeira team came in 17th in the state.  Junior Ben Ramos led the Mustangs with a 57th place finish.  Other scorers were junior Diego Arredondo, senior Joseph Kirby, sophomore Ethan Henry, & junior Dylan Whitson.  The 6th & 7th runners for Madeira were freshman Jacob Gaffney & sophomore Luke Mitchell.

Division II Girls'
Riley Bahr of Wyoming was the top runner for the CHL.  The senior finished 35th out of 177 runners.  Senior Hannah Korte of Taylor was 30 seconds behind her.  Freshman Elizabeth
Whaley of Indian Hill was another 7 seconds behind.

Division III Girls'
Freshman Jessica Sanders of Finneytown finished with a time of 22:02.1.

Congratulations to all of the runners who made the state meet on their great seasons!
