Mariemont One For Two In Lacrosse

Mariemont joined Columbus St. Francis De Sales & Chagrin Falls in having both boys and girls lacrosse making it to the Division II state semifinals.   The double header between the Warriors and De Sales was played in Dayton at Chaminade Julienne High School.

In the boys' game, Mariemont and De Sales played it close most of the first part of the game.  The Warriors were down 3 at half.  In the 2nd half, Mariemont stayed down by at least three goals before mounting a comeback late. They tied the game at 13 all with 2:05 to go.  But De Sales came up with two late goals to win 15-13.  Mariemont finishes a great season 18-3 and two straight final fours appearances.

The Warrior girls were up by 2 goals at half with their game with De Sales.  They went up by 3 goals in the 2nd half when De Sales started to come back.  They tied the game and then took the lead 11-10 with 14:40 to go.  Fifty seconds later, Mariemont was down 3 goals, but they were not done.  They came all the way back when Marah Campbell tied the game at 14 all with 2:58 to go. No more scoring occurred in regulation.  In the first overtime, with less than 25 seconds remaining, Campbell scored to put Mariemont up 15-14 and earned a trip to the state championship game.  It is the 2nd time in the last 2 games that the Warriors found themselves down by at least 3 goals late in a game and came back to win in overtime.  Mariemont, 16-4, will take on Chagrin Falls in the D2 state title game at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday at 10:00 am.  It will be the first time Mariemont girls have ever played for a state lacrosse title.

Last year, the CHL dominated the Division II lacrosse titles winning both boys and girls.  It won't happen this year as both defending champs will not get a chance to defend their titles.  Indian Hill girls lost in the regional finals and Mariemont boys lost in the state semifinals.  But at least Mariemont has a chance with their girls to bring home another state title to their school.
