Deer Park In State Title Game Saturday


Deer Park boys' basketball has set so many records and milestones this season.  They can add to that their first state title game.  The Wildcats beat Cleveland Heights Lutheran East 66-48  in the state semi-final game in Columbus.  The Falcons moved up to Division III this year after winning the Division IV state championship last year.  Deer Park never trailed in the game.  They had a 38-22 half time lead.  Senior Jalen Rose led the Wildcats with 18 points.  Sophomore Mark Wise had 16 points.  Junior Joseph Hocker had 10 points & 18 rebounds.

Deer Park (28-0) will play for the D3 state championship Saturday at 2:00 at the Schottenstein Center.  They will meet Columbus Africentric (21-6) who upset Canal Winchester Harvest Prep 54-52.  Harvest Prep has been the #1 team in the state the whole season.  Deer Park is #2 and Africentric is #10.

SID Notes -  Deer Park has won one state team title; 1977 baseball.  The last league team to win a state title in basketball was Reading in 2003 in Division III.
