Deer Park & Madeira Boys' District Champs

The Division III. boys' basketball Sweet 16 is now set and two of those teams are from the CHL.   Both Deer Park & Madeira won district titles at UD arena on Wednesday.

Madeira had the first of game of the evening going against the #6 team in the state Versailles.  The Mustangs pretty much controlled the game against the Tigers.  But with a couple minutes to go, the Tigers pulled within 2.  They never got any closer as the Mustangs won 57-51,  Jack Cravaack once again led Madeira in scoring with 22 points.  He added 12 rebounds.  In the last four games, Cravaack has averaged just over 22 a game.  Adam Wieczorek added 14 points and Kyle Johnson had 12 points.  Madeira is now 18-7 with a 6 game winning streak.

Deer Park played Dayton Stivers in the second game of the night.  The Wildcats got a scare from the 12th seeded Tigers.  Stivers led at half time by 5 and at the end of the 3rd by 4.  But late foul shooting by Deer Park brought them back as they went on to win 72-63.  Mark Wise led the Wildcats with 24 points.  Deer Park is now 25-0 and is making their first ever appearance in the regional semi-finals.

Both teams move on to the regional semi-finals at Trent Arena on the campus of Kettering Fairmont High School.  The games will be played on Wednesday, March 14th.  How appropriate that the top four teams in the final Enquirer poll will be playing there.  In the 5:30 game, Deer Park will take on Purcell Marian.  The teams have been in the top two in the city most of the season.  In the 8:00 game, Madeira will take on North College Hill.  This is Madeira's first trip to the regional semi-finals since 2006.
