Dupre Two State Titles, Several Podium Finishes For League Swimmers


Junior Cora Dupre from Mariemont had high expectations at the state championships in Canton.  She left with two gold medals and a silver in night that saw several league swimmers standing on the podium.  Dupre first state title came in the 50 Freestyle where she swam a 22.56 to win.  Several minutes later, she followed it up with 1st place in the 100 Freestyle in 49.20.  Dupre capped her special day off on the Warrior 400 Freestyle Relay that finished 2nd in 3:26.31.  They were not that far behind Gates Mills Hawkins that broke the state record.  Other members of the relay were senior Brooke Woellert, junior Kate Overbey, & junior Lainey Newman.  Woellert & Overbey had two other trips to the podium.  Brooke was 6th in the 100 Backstroke (57.40) & 6th in the 200 IM (2:06.61).  Kate had 4th finishes in the 100 Breaststroke (1:04.49) & 200 IM (2:04.13).  Mariemont finished 4th in the team standings with 141 points.  Wyoming girls finished 13th.  They had podium finishes in two relays.  The 200 Freestyle Relay was 5th (1:39.83).  Members were senior Sabrina Chu, senior Becca Prangley, sophomore Libby Spera, & freshman Mia Hugenauer.  The 400 Freestyle Relay was 7th in 3:39.05.  Members were Chu, Prangley, junior Brianna Connock, & sophomore Mikaela Elliott.  Madeira finished 27th.  Junior Emma Fortman had two podium finishes.  For the 3rd straight year, she was 6th in the 50 Freestyle (23.97).  Fortman was 8th in the 100 Freestyle (52.27).  Indian Hill girls finished 39th.
League boys had two teams finish in the top ten at the state meet.  Indian Hill was 6th with 100 points. Of course big time points were scored for the Braves by Noah Vigran's state title in diving.  Indian Hill had three podiums in swimming. Senior Max Eihausen was 8th in the 500 Freestyle (4:48.64). He followed it up with two more podium trips. The 200 Freestyle Relay with Eihausen, freshman Dan Edmondson, sophomore Devin Edwards, & sophomore Nick Bulas finished 5th (1:29.14). The 400 Freestyle team had set the school record in the prelims and ended up 7th in the finals with a 3:16.54. Members were Eihausen, Edwards, senior Sam Okum, & sophomore Will Taylor.  Mariemont had a 9th place finish with 86 points. Junior Ian Mikesell had three podium finishes.  In the 100 Breaststroke, he was 2nd in 57.11.  It was his 3rd year in a row on the podium for 100 Breaststroke.  Each year he has moved up in the standings. Mikesell was 8th in the 200 IM (1:57.47).  The Warrior 200 Freestyle Relay with Mikesell, junior Jackson Comer, junior Gabe Hartnett, & senior Nick McCarthy were 4th with a school record time of 1:27.76.  Wyoming was 12th in the standings with several swimmers in the consolation finals.  Madeira was 25th.  Senior Chet Dobson was 4th in the 200 Freestyle (1:41.41).  It was the 4th year in a row that Dobson has been on the podium for 200 Freestyle. Chet had a 2nd podium finish in the 500 Freestyle (4th-4:39.04).

Some additional facts on swimming/diving:
Cora Dupre became the first athlete in Mariemont history to win two state titles in one year.  She is tied with  Bob Alsfeder for the most individual state titles (three) in school history.  Alsfelder won state titles in the 100 Butterfly from 1969-1971.  And it should be noted, Cora is only a junior! 
In CHL history, Dupre is tied for 2nd with Margaret Fish (Indian Hill), Emily Hunter (Indian Hill), Ashlee Edgell (Madeira) & Jonathan Rutter (Wyoming) in state swimming titles (three).  Amanda Smith of Indian Hill had four state swimming titles.
Dupre has had seven podium finishes before this year including her 200 Freestyle title last year.
Chet Dobson & Brooke Woellert have had eight previous podium finishes.
Lainey Newman & Phil Brocker (Wyoming) have had six previous podiums.
