Mariemont Girls 5th In a Row, Indian Hill Boys Back To Back


The CHL swimming and diving championships were held Friday & Saturday at Mariemont High School and Powell Crosley Jr. YMCA. Both champion teams from last year repeated this year.

Mariemont girls won their 5th straight league title.  The Warriors had 387 points, 57 better than 2nd place Wyoming.  Indian Hill was 3rd with 213 points. Madeira was 4th, Taylor 5th, & Finneytown 6th.  In the swimming finals, the Warriors won 7 of the 8 individual events and all three relays.  Cora Dupre won two individual events in league record times.  The junior from Mariemont set a record in the 50 Freestyle in 23.63.  That better the previous record held by Devin Landstra (24.46) of Indian Hill in 2016.  Dupre also won the 100 Backstroke in a record 58.28.  Landstra also held that record (58.70) in 2016.  For the 2nd year in a row, Cora Dupre was named Athlete of the Year.  Junior Lainey Newman of Mariemont won the 100 Freestyle (55.45) & 200 Freestyle (1:59.11).  Junior teammate Kate Overbey won the 500 Freestyle (5:13.14) & 100 Breaststroke (1:08.43).  Warrior senior Brooke Woellert won the 200 IM (2:16.95).  Indian Hill junior Brianna Yin broke up the Mariemont domination of the individual swim events by winning the 100 Butterfly in 1:02.25. Mariemont won the relays: 200 Freestyle (1:42.37), 200 Medley (1:55.11), & 400 Freestyle (3:44.82).  Lexi Magenheim of Indian Hill repeated as 1 Meter Diving champ with 241.70 points.  Kevin Maness of Mariemont was named Coach of the Year.

Indian Hill boys snapped Wyoming's 10 year win streak last year, winning their first ever CHL boys' league title in swimming/diving.  It didn't' take long for them to win their 2nd title as the Braves became back to back champs.  Indian Hill had 426 points.  Wyoming was distance 2nd with 257 points.  Mariemont had 240 points in 3rd place. Madeira was 4th, Taylor 5th, & Reading 6th.  Indian Hill won four individual events and one relay.  Sophomore Devin Edwards won the 50 Freestyle (23:06) & 100 Freestyle (49.93).  Sophomore Will Taylor won the 500 Freestyle in 4:57.02 & Sophomore Nick Blues won the 100 Backstroke in 54.48.  The Braves won the 400 Freestyle Relay in 3:22.82.  Wyoming had only one first place but it was a record breaker.  The Cowboys won the 200 Medley Relay in 1:38.73.  The previous record of 1:40.23 was set by Madeira in 2015.  Ian Mikesell of Mariemont had two first places finishes.  The junior won the 100 Breaststroke in 1:01.41 & the 200 IM in 2:02.11. The Warrior 200 Freestyle Relay won with a time of 1:32.40.  Senior Chet Dobson of Madeira was a double winner.  He won the 200 Freestyle in 1:45.16 & 100 Butterfly in 53.49.  Dobson was named Athlete of the Year.  Senior Noah Vigran of Indian Hill won the 1 Meter Diving for the 3rd straight year.  He broke the league record in points that he had set last year.  Vigran had 357.85 points, 24 better than the record breaking total from last year.  Brandon Voorhies (Indian Hill), Dave Elliott (Wyoming), & Chip Dobson (Madeira) were all named Coach of the Year.
