Ben Bayless, Disney Champ

Twenty four members of Indian Hill's cross country team had the ultimate running experience.  They competed in the 21st annual Disney Classic.  The race was held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Disney World property in Florida.  Over 100 high school cross country teams from throughout the country competed at the event, along with several colleges and middle schools.  Coach Sue Savage organized the trip.  The Braves went to the meet in 2006 and had a wonderful time.  The team flew down to Orlando on Thursday and returned home Sunday.  Their races were on Friday.  The girls competed in the Jasmine Division for the varsity race.  They came in 13th.  Emily Sheard was 30th out of 206 runners.  The boys competed in the Robin Hood Division where they finished 3rd out of 23 teams.  Ben Bayless was 1st out of 197 runners with a time of 16:48.  Johnny Giroux was 5th and Nolan Heffernan 14th with Tommy Tauer & Joe Murdock rounding out the Brave's scoring.  One other varsity boys race took place with 255 runners.  Out of 452 varsity runners, Bayless had the 2nd fastest time.

Indian Hill cross country has another trip planned.  This one does not involve a race.  For the 11th year in a row, the team will travel to Fort Knox, Kentucky on Monday, October 16 to Van Voorhis  Elementary School on the military base.  They will deliver supplies and spend the day with three first grade classes.  Many of the first graders have a parent deployed.  It is a team community project.  The reason the school is chosen is because one of the first grade teachers was a roommate and teammate of Coach Savage at West Virginia University.
